Are There Any Bungee Jumps In Virginia?

The east coast is a beautiful place to visit, especially Virginia! With a wide variety of things to do, no wonder it’s a place that has seen a lot of visitors throughout the years. You have everything from museums to oyster-shucking events. But what if you’re looking for something a bit more extreme, such as bungee jumping? Are there any bungee jumps in Virginia?

There are no actual bungee jumping locations in Virginia, but there is a bungee-like ride in Doswell called the X-Treme Skyflyer. The requirements set by Virginia State to manage a bungee jumping site seem to be an issue. Therefore, you will need to find a classic bungee location nearby if this is a sport you want to take part in!

Below, I will take you through some nearby locations you can look into if you’re looking to bungee somewhere nearby. Let’s get started!

X-TREME Skyflyer- Kings Dominion in Doswell Virginia

While there are no actual bungee jump locations in Virginia, there is a ride that gives you a sensation mixed between bungee jumping and hang gliding. Regardless, one thing is for sure; your blood will be full of adrenaline!

The X-treme Skyflyer is a large arch that sits in the middle of the theme park. Riders are reeled to the top, which is about 17 stories high, and then dropped down to six feet shy of the ground as they swing down through and up 15 stories to the other side. This continues until the operators can safely catch you to bring you back down.

All riders will need to pay a separate fee as the cost of this ride is not included in park admission. Also, this ride can accommodate up to three people at the same time as long as the combined weight doesn’t reach over 850 lbs.

4 Bungee Jumps Near Virginia

Some people want to go bungee jumping not just for the feeling of it but for the experience. Therefore, I made a little list of places you can visit to go bungee jumping, they’re all close enough to Virginia, so you can drive!

1. Vertigo Bungee, Tyrone, Kentucky

You can’t go wrong if you go to Vertigo Bungee in Kentucky! This company was created in 1990, so they have over 30 years of experience, so you know you’re in good hands. Actually, this company gained international recognition when some of the world’s best extreme sports athletes came bungee jumping with them. They were even featured on MTV!

This company is still going strong, with over 300,000 jumps logged from many different places, including the Youngs Bridge in Kentucky. In fact, Vertigo owns this bridge, so they can better assist their jumpers in the way they want.

This bridge stands at 283 feet over the Kentucky River. This gives a broad view of Kentucky with its beautiful river banks and lush greenery. But what makes or breaks a bungee jumping experience is the crew in charge. This is one of the best companies you can jump with! Take advantage of the opportunity.

2. Track Recreation Center, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Another great place for you to wander off to is the Fast Track Recreation Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. They have a few different things for you to do, including, of course, bungee jumping! The jump tower is 65 feet high, and you’ll plunge feet first toward the ground.

Jumpers must weigh between 80 and 240 pounds in order to partake in the bungee. The maximum weight is also for tandem jumps.

This particular location is great because you can bring the whole family! Even if several people in your group cannot or don’t want bungee jumping, there are many activities to do here instead!

You can race each other on the go-karts on one of their three-track options. They also have an arcade, bumper cars, bumper boats, the SkyFlyer ride, and many more! There’s something for everyone here, no matter how young or old.

3. Great Canadian Bungee

Now, if you’re looking to head North instead of South, and a road trip out of the country, you should check out the Great Canadian Bungee! This is another company that was founded in 1990, and they officially opened in 1991, so they have quite a bit of experience under their belt, plus they are the highest bungee in Canada.

This location consists of a bridge that’s hovering over a lagoon. When you stop and look around, it’s more or less gorgeous because everything around you is nothing but rock faces and cliffs. The bridge stands around 200 feet over the water.

When you jump, you can choose to immerse your whole body in the water or just your head. Of course, you have the choice to stay out of the water as well. But this is a great option, especially for those looking for a little extra thrill or to cool off on a hot day.

There’s also a zipline there, so if you’re looking for a nice dose of adrenaline without the bungee jump, you can still enjoy an amazing ride. Plus, there are some benches and places to sit around the outer side of the gorge so that observers can watch for free.

4. Carowinds Amusement Park – Reverse Bungee

For those who prefer to stay on the east coast and in the country, you can check out the reverse bungee at Carowinds Amusement Park. This park is located in North Carolina and requires a general admission fee. However, it’s worth it!

This particular bungee slings you 300 feet up into the air at around 60 miles per hour. You’ll twist, turn, flip, and bounce around so much that you won’t know which way is up. Although, you should be aware that this right is not included in the general admission price.

For those who are not fond of bungees, or reverse bungees, the amusement park has a wide variety of other rides to enjoy. They have a nice selection of roller coasters, relaxing rides, kiddie rides, carnival games, and fair food.

Other Activities Like Bungee Jumping In Virginia

Not everyone wants to go on a road trip to track down a location to go bungee jumping. If that’s you, there are some other sports in Virginia that you can try out that give you the same type of adrenaline rush that bungee jumping does.

BASE Jumping

Virginia is great for BASE jumping! However, this event I’m going to tell you about actually takes place in West Virginia, but it’s a lot closer than Kentucky or Canada! The event is called Bridge Day.

Bridge Day only lasts for one day, and it’s one of the largest sporting events in the world that celebrates extreme sports. The date for this, however, changes as it’s celebrated on the third Saturday of every October. It takes place on the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayette County.

BASE jumpers leap from this bridge and take the 876-foot flight into the gorge. Furthermore, you’ll see rappellers coming and going from the catwalk. There’s plenty of space to jump and participate and room for observers.

This event welcomes upward of 140,000 people or more. It’s one of the more popular BASE jumping events worldwide and in the USA.

Hang Gliding

Hang gliding is another great sport to enjoy in Virginia. There are plenty of places to do this in tandem. You’ll take flight with a professional who will steer the glider while you take in the gorgeous views below!

The best part is that you can choose between a mild ride or one that leaves your heart pounding. Either way, you’ll get a little adrenaline as you’re towed to altitude by a plane and then released. You won’t need to run to start or stop it, as hang gliders have wheels like an airplane! You must be seven and over to enjoy!

Rock Climbing

For those who are looking for something more of a slower-paced sport but one that still provides a nice challenge for you, there are plenty of places to rock climb in Virginia! Plenty of places to go for traditional climbing or even bouldering.

For those who prefer somewhat of a traditional climb, there’s Elizabeth Furnace and Breaks Interstate. The scenery here is absolutely amazing. Or, for more sport-focused routes, you can check out Hidden Valley or the Roanoke River Gorge.

Bouldering is also a well-known sport, with plenty of great places to do it! Check out Grayson Highlands State Park, The Cascades, or Mcafees Knob for some of the best bouldering opportunities in Virginia.

Skydiving

No matter where you go in the USA, you can’t forget about skydiving. Skydiving provides one of the best views to give you a new perspective on an area! You’ll get to freefall above the Virginia area, strapped to a professional instructor, so you won’t have to worry about guiding the parachute.

There are also places where you can go jump solo as long as you’re certified to do so. Enjoy the views of the mountains and ocean as you plummet back to Earth. You’ll get your adrenaline rush, but even better views than bungee jumping provide, as you’ll be on top of the world!

Are There Any New Bungee Jumps Coming to Virginia?

Currently, there are no conversations about new bungee jumps coming to Virginia. The east coast is more hesitant to allow bungee jumping to become more prevalent.

But, just as time continuously changes, so do preferences. So, there’s no saying what the future holds! Eventually, bungee jumping will come to Virginia. It’s just a matter of when.
