With one of the most popular bungee locations in the world coming out of Quebec, The Great Canadian Bungee, does British Columbia have any bungee jumps to offer? Are there any bungee jumps in or near Vancouver?
There are no bungee jumps in the City of Vancouver, but there are two locations nearby, the Whistler bungee, and WildPlay Nanaimo Bungy. Whistler bungee is a bridge that’s 160 feet high, and WildPlay Bungy is a 150 feet platform over the Nanaimo River.
Let’s dive deeper into some of the bungee jump locations in and around Vancouver. This way, you have a good selection should you ever find yourself in the area or looking for a nearby road trip.
Can You Go Bungee Jumping Anywhere in Vancouver?
As a resident of Vancouver, there are no bungee jumping locations in the city. We do offer a handful of exciting and adventurous activities for thrill seekers, but bungee jumping just isn’t one of them. You can zipline, ski/snowboard, Eagle Coaster, seaplane tours, Skydive Vancouver, and so much more.
If you want to bungee jump, you are in luck because there are two bungee jumps in BC, which are both within driving distance of Vancouver.
1. Whistler Bungee
Location: Calcheak Forest Service Rd, Whistler, BC V0N 1B1, Canada
Distance from Vancouver: 112kms
Time from Vancouver: Scenic 1-hour and 45-minute drive
Bungee Height: 160 feet
Type of Bungee: Headfirst
Book the Whistler Bungee jump here!
The second most popular bungee jump in Canada is the Whistler Bungee! They stay open all year, in all weather except for lightning. Or, of course, if there are gale force winds, they’re not going to run the jump, so you’re not left flailing in the wind.
You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world when you are up on the Whistler Bungee Bridge at 160 feet. Enjoy the rocky scenery and the rushing blue water from above.
As you’re getting ready to take the plunge, you’ll feel your heart beating in your ears, hands, and feet, but the scenery is so beautiful that it truly creates the perfect balance. Now, you have to jump! No backing down.
My favorite part about this jump is that it can be enjoyed by nearly anyone as long as you are healthy enough to take the plunge. There are no age restrictions here as long as you meet the weight restrictions of 65 lbs. If you are under 16 years old, you will need a parent/guardian’s signature.
2. WildPlay Nanaimo Bungy Jump
Location: 35 Nanaimo River Rd, Nanaimo, BC V9X 1S5
Distance from Vancouver: 120kms (route includes a ferry)
Time from Vancouver: 3 to 3.5 hours total (Tsawwassen-Nanaimo ferry will take about 2 hours)
Bungee Height: 150 feet
Type of Bungee: Headfirst
Book the WildPlay Nanaimo Bungy jump here!
This location is excellent for those looking for a day trip as you need to head off to Vancouver Island. You need to take a ferry which is about 1 hour and 40 minutes, then its about a 20 minute drive once you are off the ferry. Or schedule a super quick flight, 10-20 minutes of fly time. Taking Seair from the Vancouver harbor to Naniamo is a unique experience!
Anyway, WildPlay Nanaimo is the perfect place for us thrill seekers to go. You have the bungy jump and much more, like the Primal Swing, Adventure Course, Zipline Tour, Axe throwing, and more!
For the bungy, there are 16 different styles you can jump in, including the classic swan dive for those who prefer the usual jump. Or, if you need something with more oomph, you can try out the more extreme options like plunging head first or doing a front flip.
The WildPlay Nanaimo jump is famous for its mental health fundraiser held each February for the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society. There are two reasons that people love to attend; 1) it’s discounted and only costs $55, and 2) you can do it naked!
However, jumpers have to be 12 or older. They should also weigh between 95 lbs and 400 lbs at WildPlay. Keep in mind that the maximum weight limit also applies to tandem jumps. Anyone under the age of 18 needs to have a waiver signed by a parent before they can jump.
Keep in mind that WildPlay has parks in BC, Alberta, and Ontario. However, the only location that offers bungee jumping is in BC from the trestle bridge over the Nanaimo River.
The Closest Bungee Jumps Outside of Vancouver
Vancouver only has two bungee jumping locations, and while bungee jumping is always a fun time, there is nothing wrong with wanting to try out a new location. Below are some places you can travel from Vancouver to go bungee jumping.
High Steel Bridge, Shelton WA
- Driving Distance from Vancouver: 241 miles/388 kms
- Location: NF-2340, Shelton, WA 98584
- Bungee Height: 385 feet
- Type of Jump: Headfirst
If you venture out of BC to a different bungee jumping location, you must come to the High Steel Bridge Bungee. This should be your first choice! It’s the best place to go bungee jumping in Washington State and throughout the whole Pacific Northwest.
This bridge sits at precisely 385 feet above the Skykomish River. The way that the terrain is situated makes you feel like you’re going to hit the ground when you reach the end of the cord. Not to mention, it provides one of the best views that Washington State has to offer.
This is a great place to go bungee jumping for those who love a bit of history! The bridge was built in 1929 as a transport bridge and for logging excavations. Now the bridge is one of the number one places to go bungee jumping in the Pacific Northwest.
Although, if you’re coming from Canada, I should warn you that this location does not have regular bungee trips, as they wait until at least 12 people are signed up for the tour. But, if you were to take the trip to Washington with a group or get together with a bungee group local there, you might be able to gather your group of 12! That way, you don’t have to wait.
Pacific Northwest Bridge, Amboy WA
- Driving Distance from Vancouver: 303 miles
- Address: NE Belvins Rd & NE Healy Rd, Amboy, Washington 98601
- Bungee Height: 200 feet
- Type of Jump: Feet first
If you’ve already been to the high steel bridge or can’t get a group of 12 together, that’s fine! There’s another great place to go bungee jumping in Washington: the Pacific Northwest Bridge in Amboy, Washington. However, the bridge is only 200 feet high.
Don’t let the bridge height deter you from going! It might be lower, but you still get the beautiful views of Washington; plus, it’s great for beginners! So, if you have someone with you who isn’t quite sure about bungee jumping, bring them here!
The bungee company that oversees this site is Bungee Masters. They’re a professional bungee company that’s focused on the safety of their jumpers. This is a great company to go with if you’re looking for a well-renowned company with experienced guides.
Hansen Bridge, Idaho
- Driving Distance From Vancouver: 760 miles
- Location: ID-50, Hansen, ID 83334
- Bungee Height: 350 feet
- Type of Jump: Head or feet first
The Hansen Bridge has a bad reputation due to a fake company that presented itself as professional. I had a run-in with them, but I didn’t jump because their gear was warped and run down, and their demeanor was horrible. Perfect recipe for a disaster, that’s for sure. – Heather Wright
This is a great location to jump with a legit company; if you’re experienced, you can bungee independently. The bridge itself is 350 feet above the Snake River. You’ll bungee into the canyon-like landscape between two large rock faces, but they’re far enough apart so you don’t feel enclosed.
Highway 21 Bridge, Boise ID
- Driving Distance From Seattle: 635 miles
- Location: Highway 21 Bridge, Boise ID
- Bungee Height: 167 feet
- Type of Jump: Head First
This is another excellent place for beginners, especially if you’re scared to go head first, as the bridge is only 167 feet high. That way, you can try the headfirst style bungee without dealing with the height factor. Plus, the scenery is calming, so you don’t have to worry about loud, rushing water or busy city streets.
The free fall is 100 feet down, and it doesn’t take too long to be pulled back up as you’re hanging just a few feet below the bridge. However, I should warn you that the bounce back does give you the illusion of hitting the bridge. But as long as you keep your eyes on the ground, you won’t even notice!
Lastly, you wouldn’t have to deal with a long, strenuous hike, as the bridge is just a few minutes away from the Grove Plaza and the zoo. You’ll also be near downtown, so it’s not a remote area.
Perrine Bridge, Twin Falls, ID
- Driving Distance From Seattle: 752 miles
- Location: Perrine Bridge, Twin Falls, ID
- Bungee Height: 486 feet
- Type of Jump: Head or Feet first
Now, if you’re looking to go to the Idaho area but want more thrill, you’ll want to jump from the Perrine Bridge. This bridge is the highest one in Idaho, and it’s a place that’s well known for bungee jumping and BASE jumping. However, please know that bungee jumping is generally discouraged here; but people still do it!
However, this bungee trip would be all at your own risk because the Idaho Transportation Department has prohibited both bungee jumping and BASE jumping. So, know that before choosing this location, or any place in Idaho, for that matter.
This bridge is run by Bungee Expeditions, a professional company that runs jumps throughout the Pacific Northwest. You can also choose to go on your own if you wish! Just ensure you’re an experienced jumper, as the sport is dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Similar Thrilling Activities in Vancouver BC:
There’s much more to do in Vancouver than just bungee jumping! Below are a few more activities you can check out to get that adrenaline-pumping action you’re looking for.
Go Ziplining
There’s no better way to see a new area than from above! Vancouver has a great place to go ziplining up on Grouse Mountain. There are five lines, and the tour will take about two hours.
You’ll be able to fly down the line at around 70 kms per hour and the views are stunning. I haven’t done this zip tour yet, but I have been up on grouse mountain and watched them zip, and the views are stunning.
You will need to take the Gondola up and those views are amazing by itself, so even if you don;t want to zipline you can head up, just get the daily ticket. You can explore the mountain still and sit on various ski lifts to get higher up the mountain. Take a look at the Grouse Gondola view:
To get to grouse from downtown Vancouver is quick, just cross the Lions Gate Bridge and head up Capilano road. Go right to the top and you are at the base of the gondola! Grouse offers so many activities, much more than just a zipline and gondola ride.
Cypress Mountain Eagle Coaster
Another thrilling activity in Vancouver is the Eagle Coaster at Cypress Mountain. This heart-pumping ride starts from the top of Black Mountain and it is 1700 meters in length with an impressive vertical drop of 279 meters. It’s not just a ride, it’s an exhilarating adventure that sees you twisting and turning down the mountainside at speeds up to 40 km per hour!
You get to control your speed with a handbrake, allowing you to choose the intensity of your ride. This means you can either take a leisurely ride down the mountain while admiring the breathtaking Vancouver views, or let loose and feel the wind rush past you.
Despite the thrills, the Eagle Coaster is a family-friendly activity. It’s suitable for all ages and physical capabilities. Even kids as young as 3 years old can join in on the fun by riding on an adult’s lap; the thrill of the Eagle Coaster is accessible to everyone!
Try Heli-Skiing
We all know that Vancouver is a hotspot for skiing and snowboarding. There’s also a variety of places to go sledding, but I decided since everyone knows that already, I’ll include heli-skiing in Whistler.
This allows you to hit runs with fresh powder no one else can get to! The helicopter will bring you to the top of Whistler Mountain, where you can ski down untouched places. You won’t have to worry about lifts, lines, or people!
Drive Exotic Supercars
What could be more fun than hitting the road in your favorite exotic supercar? ScenicRush is a company in Vancouver that allows you to do just that. You can choose from a wide variety of cars, including:
- Ferarri
- Lamborghini
- Corvette
- Jeep Wrangler
- Ford Bronco
- And more!
They also have a variety of packages where you can choose between a three, five, and seven-hour experience. The Sea to Sky Exotic Driving Experience is a great option as you get to drive the beautiful Se to Sky Highway in a luxury supercar!
It’s an experience you want to try at least once!
Ride on Roller Coasters PNE
You can’t forget the good ole rollercoasters! Sometimes keeping things simple is best. There is a place called PNE Playland where you can hop on 20 different rides, including a roller coaster from 1958!
The park also has new rides, such as the Atmosfear, where riders fly 218 feet above the ground on a swing that spins you in a full circle. The rides here are suitable for everyone in the family, as there are some kid-friendly rides and some fitted only for the most severe adrenaline junkies!
