99 Adventurous Things to Do With Your Friends

Spending a lot of time with your friends can make finding things to do challenging. You want to do something new, adventurous, and a lot of fun. As an ex-zipline guide, I have many ideas that come to mind when it comes to adventurous recommendations.

Not all of us consider “adventure” to be the same thing, some of us may want to jump out of an airplane, while others just want to head to the local axe throwing facility to enjoy a night out.

Being adventurous is subjective; what constitutes adventurous behavior can vary from person to person. That’s why my list has been pieced together with everyone’s best interests in mind.

Let’s take a look at 99 adventurous things to do with your friends!

Table of contents

1. Ziplining

ziplining over jungle and blue waters

I was a zipline guide for five years of my life, so I think it makes sense to start it off with ziplining. Ziplining is the perfect adventure you and your friends need to try. No matter if you are young and energetic or you are retired, a good zipline tour is an amazing experience. I have done tours with many 80-year-olds!

Many people think ziplining is the ultimate thrill, and I think it depends on the zipline tour you choose to go on. Some ziplines are the most beautiful experiences out there; you get to zip smoothly across a cable as you soar above a beautiful waterfall, forest, or mountainside, taking in the views as your tour guides do all the work for you.

Some tours are a thrill ride, don’t get me wrong. You can book ziplines where you reach heights hundreds of feet off the ground and thousands of feet in ziplining distance. Some of these ziplines even reach speeds up to 100mph, like the fastest zip in the world “Velocity” in the UK.

Book a tour with your friends, I promise you that it will be a load of fun.

See more activities like ziplining in our “19 Activities Like Ziplining to Do With Your Friends” here.

2. Axe Throwing

Axe Throwing with pals

Another adventurous activity that is perfect for gathering up a squad of your friends is axe throwing. It has become such a popular activity over the last few years that I think it deserves to be placed extremely high on this list.

I have been axe-throwing a couple of times, it is sort of like throwing darts but much more extreme. You get to take an axe, throw it back over your head, then release it with a forward throw. You basically get to unleash your inner beast with this activity.

If you love axe throwing, read “19 Activities like Axe Throwing to Do With Your Friends” here.

3. Indoor Skydiving

Indoor Skydiving

I am placing indoor skydiving ahead of regular skydiving because it is much more accessible. iFly is the most popular indoor skydiving facility worldwide; they are located in most major cities in the USA, making it the perfect activity for you to book with friends.

Indoor skydiving is a safer alternative to traditional skydiving, providing a similar freefall sensation through large high-tech wind tunnels that blow wind at speeds of 150-180 mph! Your indoor flights last 50-120 seconds per flight, depending on what you have booked.

iFly sessions are one of a kind; you can book packages such as birthday events that allow up to 13 people per booking. There are also group deals where you can have 6-12 people in your group. Also, you can book smaller groups too, you just have to pay individually, so don’t let group size hold you back.

Read more about what indoor skydiving is all about here in our full detailed guide.

4. Go-Karting

Go-Karting

If you like to take control and compete directly against your friends, go-karting is a thrilling adventure for you. With modern go-karts and tracks built today, you can reach speeds as high as 50-60mph in some recreational go-karts. Superkarts driven by professionals actually go as fast as 140 mph, but that’s not what you will rent at the local race track.

Booking a go-karting session with your friends is a lot of fun! I remember racing my friends, and it was thrilling trying to go as fast as I could to win, but I also laughed the entire race because it was somehow hilarious.

Speeding around each corner is worth making your way to a go-karting facility; plus if you are competitive, racing is one of the best ways to win bragging rights.

See our related post “17 Activities Like Go-Karting to Do With Your Friends” here.

5. Ropes Courses

Ropes Course
If you like ziplining or indoor rock climbing, then mixing them together, you get a ropes course. Built with dozens of mentally and physically challenging obstacles, a ropes course offers a place for you and your friends to get some good exercise while doing an extremely adventurous activity.

When I worked at a zipline, we had a 3 level ropes course. People of all ages and sizes would pull up with their squads. Whenever people finished, they always left with a smile, they felt accomplished to complete the challenge!

From ziplines, rope climbs, tire swings, spider nets, and other tough obstacles, ropes courses can bring you and your friends together. Pushing one another through each challenge makes it one of the perfect adventures you can do together.

6. Electric Scooter Rentals

Electric-Scooter-Rentals

In recent years electric scooters have been showing up around every corner you walk around, especially in larger cities. People just love to cruise around on them for fun, or to get to and from work; some people are even delivering your food on them.

I always wondered how much fun they would be, I was walking downtown Halifax and saw one you could rent. Beep, beep, beep, my payment information was taken and I got to give it a go.

These things can rip! They are extremely fun, and dangerous making them a great adventure for you and your friends to try. Rent them out for a few hours and explore locations you have never been to before!

7. Bungee Jumping

bungee Jumping

If you want to be extremely adventurous, bungee jumping is the activity for you and your wild friend group. I know most of my friends would say “heck no”, and I don’t blame them. Bungee jumping is a crazy sport!

You will be placed in a harness, either a body harness or also with an ankle harness. If you get an ankle harness, that means you can jump head first; that’s a thrill. As you are harnessed up, you make yourself to a ledge or a platform, and then the operators connect the bungee cord to your harness.

You will then take the leap and freefall anywhere from 100 feet to 500 feet, sometimes more, depending on the location. There are similar jumps where you don’t connect to a bungee, but you freefall on a controlled line, reaching speeds of 40mph. The most popular in the USA is the SkyJump in Las Vegas.

If you like bungee jumping, see “10 Activities Like Bungee Jumping for Thrill Seekers” here.

8. Skydiving

Skydiving

Finally, traditional skydiving is on the list. If you and your friends are looking for one of the ultimate thrills, skydiving is one of the most adventurous things you can do on planet earth.

If you didn’t know, humans are not natural flyers, but skydiving makes flying possible. Anyone can suit up as a tandem jumper and hop out of a plane 10,000 feet above the ground. This means you and your crazy friends can get together and book a jump at your local skydiving dropzone.

Skydiving, you get to see the world from above; the views are like nothing else. You jump, then fall for 50 seconds or so until your parachute opens up. These 50 seconds will make the adrenaline rush through your veins more than anything you have ever done. Doing this with friends makes it an even better overall experience, cracking that beer after landing is unmatchable.

9. Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting is typically what thrill seekers turn to when they want something that will give them a nice adrenaline dump in the water.

It is much more than just riding an inflatable raft through choppy waters; you get to team up with a group and work together to hustle through the unpredictable whitewater. The uncertainty, rapid movements, and extreme water pressure make whitewater rafting a wild adventure for a group of friends.

Choosing to go with all your pals is great, but if you don’t have a large group, you can always try whitewater kayaking as you get a similar thrill, but you each get a kayak to yourself.

If you like whitewater rafting and want to see more water sports see “10 Activities Like Whitewater Rafting for Thrill Seekers” here.

10. Slacklining

Slacklining

Slacklining involves walking on a flat webbing or rope that’s anchored between two points. This is great activity that you and your friends can post up at the local park and hang out all day. It’s also a way to test your balance and coordination, where you can challenge or support each other as a group.

Once you get really good at slacklining at the park, you can start to increase the overall thrill of the sport. You can anchor the two points over higher areas such as canyons, rivers, and anything alike. This is what you can call highlining, as you are super high-up.

You are often strapped in during highlining, which makes it quite the adventure that you and your friends can enjoy together.

11. Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a great way to challenge yourself and your friends physically and mentally. Whether you try indoor climbing at gyms and local facilities or attempt to scale outdoor cliffs and boulders, teamwork is involved. This makes celebrating each other’s successful climbs exciting, which turns into lasting memories.

Outdoor climbing is a great way to get outside and explore nature. You can combine climbing with long hikes and camping. If you want to get crazy, you can even camp out while hanging off a cliff. To read more about this activity, jump to number 58 which is portaledging, aka cliff camping.

Check out my related post “10 Activities Like Rock Climbing For Adventure Seekers” here.

12. Giant Swings

Giant Swings

If you love the adrenaline rush from bungee jumping, giant swings will also provide you with a similar rush. It’s a controlled free-fall, similar to the SkyJump, where you and your friends can swing at heart-pounding heights.

Some swings, like the Nevis Swing, allow you to jump tandem with a friend. You will want a friend on the Nevis Swing as you go a full 300m arc in the sky. It is the most famous giant swing in the world, probably because it is an insane attraction!

The collective screams and laughter make giant swings an unforgettable adventure for a group of thrill-seeker friends.

13. Parasailing

Parasailing

If you are looking for a beautiful experience with a slight bit of thrill, parasailing is the option I recommend.

The sport allows you and your friends to fly through the sky while connected by rope to a boat. Typically, you can tandem up and ride in groups of up to 3-4 people at a time, but a larger group can book the same time and head out on the boat together, you will just have to break up into flying groups.

Parasailing gives you spectacular views of the coastlines, and often these parasailing companies are located on some of the most beautiful coasts in the world. Enjoy the warm wind blowing through your hair as you and your friends enjoy the calm flight. For a little more thrill some companies will dip your feet in the water!

14. ATV/UTV Tours

ATV/UTV Tours

ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) or UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) tours allow you to explore off-road trails in new places with your friends. It’s like go-karting but with the added fun of rugged terrain, where you may get dirty and stuck.

The group excitement and exploration make it an extremely thrilling adventure, perfect for those looking to combine both speed and nature.

I have done a handful of these style tours in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, there is nothing like riding an ATV to a hidden cenote where you can jump in the clearest of blue waters with your group.

15. Rollercoasters

Rollercoasters

I have gone on many rollercoasters as my girlfriend loves them. However, the large ones actually scare me. It must be the g-forces on them because I black out and pass out sometimes, lol. But besides that, I do enjoy them, I just wish I wouldn’t pass out!

Hitting a theme park with your friends for rollercoaster rides is a classic adventure. With various types of rollercoasters, from inversions to high-speed launches, the shared screams and laughter create an unforgettable bonding experience. Plus, comparing reactions by looking at the photos that cameras take of you mid-flight adds to the amusement.

16. Canyoning or Caving

Canyoning and Caving cenote

Canyoning and caving offer some unimaginable adventures; some of my favorite tours I have ever done were caving tours. As I already mentioned, I have gone to cenotes in Mexico, and they are caves that are filled with crystal clear waters, perfect for swimming and exploring. I highly recommend these adventures, as Mexico has over 6000 of them.

While canyoning involves you and your friends navigating through canyons using techniques like rappelling and swimming, finding waterfalls and natural swimming pools is amazing to experience; climbing to and from them is what makes it a true adventure.

Both require teamwork and compared to a hike it can be considered an epic exploration, they are often compared to rock climbing but with added mystery and excitement.

17. Extreme Water Slides

Extreme Water Slides

Water slides in general, are pretty extreme, but finding a water park that provides large slides you and your friends can cruise down is tons of fun.

Extreme water slides provide a wet and wild ride perfect for cooling off with friends during the intense summer heat. Experience the steep drops to twisting turns; these slides offer a thrilling yet refreshing adventure. It’s like whitewater rafting, but with a more controlled adrenaline rush, and you know where the slide is going, unlike the rapids.

18. Camping

Camping

Camping is a great combination of relaxation and adventure, you get the chance to reconnect with nature and of course your friends. Whether hiking, sitting around a campfire, or stargazing, camping encourages bonding with your pals and provides a break from the modern digital world we are all stuck in.

No matter how you want to experience camping, just get out and explore the outdoors with your friends. I know you will have the time of your life.

19. Snowmobile Rental/Tours

Snowmobile Rental/Tours

I grew up in Newfoundland and have driven snowmobiles hundreds of times, these machines are a thrill. Boondocking in fresh deep powder is so much fun, this means turning in deep powder, and your machine is tilted as you sink into the deep into the snow. It is so satisfying that it makes me miss it like crazy!

Snowmobile tours offer a fun way to explore snow-covered mountains and areas you likely would never get to yourself. Getting out with a group of friends, taking snacks to cook over an outdoor fire, having a cold refreshing drink in the mountains, there’s nothing that compares in terms of winter adventure.

Take some skis too, you can have one friend bring you back and forth to the top of a hill for a fun freestyle skiing adventure.

Read my related post “19 Adventurous Winter Activities for Thrill Seekers” here.

20. Trampoline Park

Trampoline Park like zipline thrills

Trampoline parks can be a lot of fun. I learned to do a backflip at these types of facilities!

These parks are indoor spaces filled with trampolines, foam pits, obstacles, and more. It is a great place for a bouncy and fun-filled adventure with a group of buddies. Playing a game of dodgeball at these places is a lot of fun too!

Unlike all the traditional sports out there, trampoline parks and gymnastic facilities add an extra dimension of excitement, making it a great choice for an energetic get-together.

21. Cliff Diving/Jumping

Cliff Jumping

When I add cliff diving, I want you to think small initially. Don’t go and jump off a huge unknown cliff and get yourself hurt. I mostly mean find a local swimming hole and jump off some rocks into some deep known water.

I grew up going to a number of these and it’s the main reason I love swimming adventures. Natural swimming holes are a great place to head off with a group of buddies for the day, take some snacks and enjoy! The scenery is what makes the adventure the best.

Cliff diving is an adrenaline rush; jumping in the air for a few seconds is wild! The time before you hit the surface of the water is thrilling and reminds me of some of my favorite adventures with my friends growing up.

22. Scuba Diving or Snorkeling

Scuba Diving or Snorkeling

Explore the unknown underwater worlds with your friends through scuba diving or snorkeling. While scuba diving plunges you into deeper places with unique marine life, snorkeling provides a more relaxed exploration near the surface. Both are a lot of fun and give you the adventure satisfaction you might be looking for.

Scuba diving requires proper training, so you and your friends could get your scuba diving certificates together!

23. Paragliding

Paragliding

Looking for another flying activity? Paragliding is one that mixes skydiving and parasailing together. At extreme heights like skydiving, but slower speeds like parasailing, grab your paraglider and set off into the skies.

Paragliding lets you and your friends glide through the air, enjoying panoramic views of some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Paragliding allows a longer flight than skydiving and parasailing too, with thermals an ridge lifts, you can lift up higher in the sky and keep going! The paragliding experience is one you and your friends can brag about for the rest of your lives.

Read my related post “13 Activities Like Paragliding for Thrill Seekers” here.

24. Bumper Cars or Bumper Boats

Bumper cars and bumper boats add a playful twist to driving, plus you are guaranteed to laugh uncontrollably as these activities are hilarious!

Behind the wheel of a bumper car or boat, you are now allowed to collide with each other without consequence. I promise laughter and some friendly competition will arise… These two activities provide lighthearted entertainment and are perfect for friends looking for a bit less-intense thrills.

25. Sports Car Driving Experience on a Race Track

Sports Car Driving Experience on a Race Track

Many cities in the USA offer racecar track experiences, which provide a wild thrill. If you and your friends like cars, this is a must-do experience!

You will feel the roar of a sports car’s engine as you cruise on a professional race track. Unlike go-karting, this experience puts you in the driver’s seat of high-performance vehicles, letting you unleash the true speed and power a full-size supercar offers. The excitement of controlling a luxury sports car adds a one-of-a-kind thrill to this friendly adventure.

26. Segway Rentals/Tours

Segway Rentals/Tours

Similar to electric scooter rentals, segway tours provide a unique way to explore a new city and scenic areas with your group of friends. Effortlessly gliding along pathways, you’ll enjoy sights from a perspective you would not have imagined.

This less-intense adventure offers a mix of fun and discovery, making it a delightful alternative to the traditional walking tours that take up hours of your day.

27. Hiking

Hiking

Hiking seems like a basic activity to add to the list, but choosing the right hike makes for a wild adventure. You get to see things you would only see in a photograph.

Hiking offers various levels of challenge too; from easy trails to trekking mountains, you get to test your and your friend’s limits. What’s great about hiking is that the difficulty does not necessarily relate to the scenery you get to experience visually. Easy hikes can provide some of the most beautiful views in the world!

28. Bubble Soccer

Bubble soccer is soccer but played while you are wearing an inflatable bubble suit, this leads to hilarious bounces, body checks, and tumbles against your friends. Combining sports with quirky fun, bubble soccer turns a friendly match into a laughter-filled adventure. It’s a hilarious way to enjoy physical activity and some fun competition with your group of friends.

29. Mini Golf

Mini Golf

Mini golf is not exactly an extreme sport by any means, but it brings out the thrill in friendly competition. With bizarre obstacles and themes, you get to make trick shot after trick shot, amazing your friends with your mini-putt skills.

It’s a relaxing game that anyone can enjoy, making it perfect for all friend groups. Make some friendly bets at the beginning, like whoever loses buys the first round of drinks.

If you love mini golf you need to see my 19 Activities Like Mini Golf post here.

30. Jet Ski Rentals

Jet Ski Rentals

If you are looking for a wild time on the water, you and your friends need to rent some Jet skis. I do own a pair of jet skis, but renting them in a new location is a whole new experience. One time I was on a cruise with my family; when we stopped in the Bahamas, we rented a few machines. This was my favorite time on jet skis!

We coasted around the island and the scenery was amazing, I saw huge mansions! The waves were massive, and it was like hitting off huge jumps. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good water thrill ride!

Jet skis reach exhilarating speeds, hitting waves is thrilling, and you can even do water sports like water skiing too! You can also rent a multi-seater jet ski to sit 1-3 people per machine.

31. Laser Tag

Laser Tag

A fun group activity with friends for all ages is Laser Tag. This action sport is a game where you shoot a laser gun at the opponent’s special vest. It can detect your lasers hitting, causing them to “die”, either temporarily or for the remainder of that game.

Many laser tag facilities today have evolved the game as technology has made it much better. Along with physical facility upgrades too, a game of laser tag is physically demanding and requires ream strategy to win. It is a great way to bring a large friend group together, make teams, and battle until the end.

Read our related post “16 Activities like Laser Tag to Do with Your Friends” here.

32. Flyboarding

Flyboarding

If you want to feel like you are flying with a jetpack, you need to try flyboarding. You and your friends can book individual sessions and watch each other wipe out hard into the water.

Using water jet propulsion from a jet ski, water shoots into a tube from the jet ski, it eventually reaches your Flyboard and shoots all the water out of the bottom under your feet. This will propel you into the air as if you are flying.

Flyboards can go as high as 70 feet in the air; obviously not recommended for us beginners, but that’s pretty crazy.

Read all you need to know about what flyboarding is and how it works here.

33. Surfing

Surfing

Go catch some waves with your friends surfing, feel that rush of riding ocean swells with your buds. Whether you’re a regular surfer or just a beginner, go out into the water and have a good time.

Surfing is a popular sport for those who live on coastlines, so inland people may have never given it a try. Take a road trip, grab a wetsuit, get to the coast, and get surfing! You and your friends will have the best time!

34. FlowRider Sesh

FlowRider

If you really can’t get to the ocean to go surfing, that’s ok. That’s why FlowRiders exist! These large wave machines make it possible to get a similar surfing experience. They have become extremely popular over the recent years, you will see them at resorts, cruise ships, and some famous beaches across the world.

Take turns with your friends and learn new tricks together; FlowRider machines are designed to be thrilling and make an adventure for everyone around.

Learn how much a FlowRiders wave machine costs here.

35. Pitch & Putt

Pitch and Putt

Pitch & Putt is simply a relaxed form of real golf; instead of long par 4s and 5s, you get mini par 3s on each hole. Expect to play 50-110 yards a hole. It is really great for friends who are not great at golf but want to get out for a bit of adventure.

There are many pitch and putt courses that are beautiful courses and offer a great golfing experience. I live in Vancouver, BC, and the Stanley Park Pitch & Putt is stunning! It gets busy and it is a great friends activity on weeknights.

36. Paintball

Paintball

Paintball places friends against each other in a strategic and high-energy gun battle. Teams must work together, strategize, and outmaneuver opponents without getting splattered with paint. The excitement and thrill of not wanting to take a bullet to the body makes it a wonderful experience for someone looking to be a bit adventurous.

Paintball is the perfect sport for people to get out of their comfort zone and play a game that requires a lot of physical effort. If you have never played before, its a game everyone needs to play at least once.

Read our related post “10 Activities like Paintball to Do with Your Friends” here.

37. Kayaking/Canoeing

Kayaking/Canoeing

A little less extreme than whitewater rafting and whitewater kayaking, regular kayaking and canoeing offer a pleasant adventure on the water. It is the best way to connect with nature and your surrounding, as it is super peaceful rowing your boat in a quiet remote area.

You can rent or buy a kayak, I have 2, and they are always used in the summertime at our family cottage.

38. Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking provides a thrilling ride through tough terrains. You and your friends can test their skills on new trails, enjoying the adrenaline rush as you gather speed and skinny across a tree ladder that is only a foot wide.

You can travel to popular destinations that offer mountain biking lifts to the tops and trails dedicated to safe riding. A great location that comes to my mind is Whistler Mountain in British Columbia. I saw some crazy tricks when I visited Whistler last summer; amazing what the trails look like.

If you and your friends can bike, I would make some time to mountain bike! It is great exercise and a thrilling sport anyone can learn to do.

39. Downhill Skiing/Snowboarding

Downhill Skiing/Snowboarding

If you have never gone skiing or snowboarding, you should really try to book a ski trip. Hitting the slopes with your friends for a downhill rushing adventure is always a blast. The rush of gliding down snow-covered mountains, combined with stunning mountain views, makes for an exciting and social winter adventure.

I had a season pass, and plan to get another this season, at Cypress Mountain in Vancouver. Being able to head up whenever you want with your good friends after a great snowfall is perfect. Getting outside and exploring new trails is an adventure worth every penny.

Many ski resorts also offer many great summer activities! Read our related post “10 Exciting Summer Activities at Ski Resorts” here.

42. Ice Skating

Ice Skating

I grew up in Canada playing ice hockey, and I will never skip a chance to go out for a skate on the ice. I do my best to get on the ice once a week to skate and shoot pucks, just because it is so fun and great exercise.

Taking a group of friends ice skating is an adventure, especially for beginner skaters. Skating is challenging to learn, but it’s fun to learn, so it is still a great activity to do with your friends.

If you ever have the opportunity to skate on a fully frozen lake or pond, I recommend it. Some cool places I have skated were Lake Louise, frozen rivers in Canada, and NHL rinks.

43. Volcano Boarding

Volcano Boarding

For the extreme thrill-seekers’ friend groups, volcano boarding down a volcano’s slopes offers a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The speed, terrain, and unique setting make it an unparalleled experience to share with your crazy friends.

Volcano boarding is when you ride a sled/board down the side of a volcano. You’re boarding through toxic ash and soot, so proper gear is typically provided by the tour company.
