I was a zipline guide for over 5 years, and I always imagined flying on the longest ziplines in the world. The excitement would be beyond amazing; I imagined the incredible views, rapid speeds, crazy heights, and just how the heck the entire zipline functioned.

I have decided to spend many hours looking all over the United States for the longest ziplines in the country. My original list had some older ziplines that are no longer open, like the New York Zipline in Hunter Mountain, which shut down on May 17th, 2023.

A good updated article was needed as an easy-to-find resource for these amazing long ziplines. I know these zips alone can help make an amazing itinerary for all of us adventure seekers traveling around the US.

There are so many ziplines in the United States and if you checked, you would probably find a zipline within an hour’s drive of wherever you are located in the United States, regardless if you’re in Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, or New York!

But if you are searching for the longest, it can be tricky! Let’s take a look at the 10 longest ziplines in the USA:

1. Catamount Mountain Resort Zip Tour, Upstate, New York – 5,523 ft

Coming in at the current longest zipline in the entire USA is the Catamount Zip Tour located in Hillsdale, New York. This is one of the longest ziplines in the entire world, coming in at 5523 feet long! Experience a wild ride traveling at speeds over 55 miles per hour while being 250 feet above the earth.

There are 2 ziplines a this location which makes it even better, you get to start off by doing the zipline called “The Ridge Zip”, which is 900 feet long. Then you get to do the 5523-foot zipline called the “Catamonster Zip”.

This zipline is about a 2 hour drive north of New York City and New Jersey, making it an option if you are in the Big Apple. Choose to spend a couple of days in the area, I promise you will not regret the exciting trip out of the city! The resort is situated right on the New York and Massachusets border, making it accessible for those in Boston too, it is about 2.5 hours west of Boston.

This zipline tour does have a few restrictions you must follow to be able to go including:

  • weight must be above 50lbs and a maximum of 260lbs
  • must be at least 10 years old and 55 inches tall
  • must safely fit into the harness correctly
  • closed toe shoes
  • no ziplining during lighting and high winds

Try the ZipRider at Icy Strait Point in Hoonah, Alaska, for some of the best zipline views in the US. This is another one of the longest ziplines in the world, coming in at 5,330 feet long. This is a terrific experience for a party or family because it has six lines that launch simultaneously, you get to race each other all at once like no other experience offers in the world.

You get to cruise 300 feet above the rainforest at speeds reaching 65 miles per hour! While the descent will cause an adrenaline surge, the ascent to the summit is unquestionably worthwhile. You will wildlife roaming free, and if you’re lucky you may even get to see the summits of Glacier Bay National Park on a bright day.

If you didn’t know, Hoonah, Alaska is a very busy tourism location because they have a cruise port that receives 100-200 cruise ships each year, this is about 400,000 people! This zipline is one of the many amazing things you can do during your port visit, but in my opinion it is the most exciting!

In 2014, this zipline had 13,000 total riders with 50 cruise ships days. With the increased number of ships in recent years, I can only imagine how many people zipline here each year.

If you are on the look for a thrilling adventure that combines the best of nature’s beauty with the thrill of flying you must check out Ski Apache ZipTour in Southern New Mexico.

Among all the ziplining gems in the US, the Pena Zip at Ski Apache is the 3rd longest zipline in the country measuring at 5,240 feet, making it just a hair shy of a full mile! The full tour is 8,900 feet long and is considered one of the longest zip tours globally.

Here are all 3 ziplines at this location:

  • PENA ZIP – 5,240 ft. long
  • CARRIZO ZIP – 1,700 ft. long
  • PALMER ZIP – 1,900 ft. long

The Apache Wind Rider ZipTour isn’t just about its crazy long zip length. It is situated at a breathtaking elevation of 11,489 feet; it has the distinct honor of being the highest-elevation zipline in New Mexico.

To begin this zipline journey, you first take the Apache Arrow Gondola, a ride that’s an experience in itself. Upon reaching there top, the Pena Zip awaits, tempting adrenaline junkies with the promise of speeds surpassing 60 miles per hour. Camelback Mountain Adventures in Pennsylvania has the 4th longest zipline in the USA! Next time you visit the Pocono Mountains, you’ll have to make sure to stop here for the ultimate thrill ride.

This zipline is the twin zip-flyer and is 4000 feet long; it is the longest zipline in Pennsylvania and used to be the longest in North America. 

The dual zip lines allow you to race whomever you want down the mountain from the peak. You’ll reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour as it hurls you over the waterpark and ski slopes, equaling out to be about a 90-second ride packed full of adrenaline.

If you do not want to participate in the 4000-foot zip, you can also choose the 1000-foot double barrel zipline!

8. Flightline Safari Zipline, San Diego Zoo – 3,520 ft

This is the longest zipline in California, San Diego Zoo’s Flightline Safari Zipline, two-thirds of a mile in length (3520 ft). After you get a short training flight on the 470-foot-long Fledgling zipline, riders head to the launch pad for the real deal. You’ll speed 130 feet in the air above rhinos, giraffes, and antelopes at eye-watering speeds before touching down at the Roar & Snore campground.

The full experience takes about an hour from start to finish, including a safety orientation, two flights, and a short tour of the safari park. For a more in-depth safari, book the hour-and-a-half Deluxe Tour with an extended truck ride in the park (your air time remains the same, though!).

This zipline is comfortable as you are in a seated-style harness, making it a beautiful way to sit back and relax as you look at all the wildlife surrounding you. As you approach the takeoff platform (huge metal structure) you begin to understand how large this zipline is, and your adrenaline kicks in step after step.

You get to go in groups of 4 if you like, as there are four cables side by side, making this a perfect group ziplining activity!

This zipline tour has 3 ziplines, it begins with the “Pumalo Traverse’, the first stage, a 1685 ft long zip that launches you from the Pine Marten lift’s unloading area. As you drop 255 feet in elevation, the views of Tumalo Mountain and Paulina Peak are right in front of you.

The next zipline is the ‘South Sister Slide’ which is a 1670 ft zipline. It offers amazing panoramic views and you drop about 263 feet in elevation.

10. Blue Streak Zipline, Lake Tahoe – 3,300 ft

Lake Tahoe is a place that many people venture off to for vacations or family trips. But did you know that there’s one of the USA’s longest ziplines is there?

There are two 3,300-foot ziplines that run next to each other, allowing riders to race one another at up to 50 miles per hour down 525 feet of elevation.

Starting from an exhilarating height of 10,000 feet above sea level, zipliners are given the unique opportunity to witness Lake Tahoe’s awe-inspiring natural beauty from a bird’s-eye view. You also get to zipline down looking at the amazing view, its a great zip experience!

If the Blue Streak is too adrenaline-pumping for you, try the Hot Shot Zip Line. It is a bit shorter at just over 1,000 feet, but riders can still reach impressive speeds of 30 to 40 mph. There is a Red Tail Flyer Zipline too, this is the children’s option and is 100 feet long and 15 feet above the ground.

Other USA Ziplines Worth Mentioning:

Attitash Mountain Resort ZipTour – 4,969 feet long

This was the 4th longest zipline in the USA, but it has been closed for 2 summers now due to maintenance for winter activities, which are their priority. They no longer have their Zipline website information anymore, so who knows if it is coming back. You can read all about this zipline on the Ziprider website here.

New York Zipline Adventure Tours: Hunter Mountain – 3,200 feet long

This zipline was one of the longest in the country and was the second longest in New York State. However, just recently they had closed up shop to what is believed to be an insurance cost issue. It is unlikely to see them opening back up as their website is shut down and they have not said anything about doing so.

This zipline you would reach 50 miles per hour through the Catskill Mountains, also reaching 600 feet in height. It was a one-of-a-kind experience many will miss.

Stowe Mountain Resort, The Stowe ZipTour – 4462 feet

This zipline tour was very popular as it offered three extremely long ziplines, 4462 feet, 2247 feet, and 3484 feet. However, they have been closed up since a tragic accident with an employee who lost their life on the zipline. It is claimed that the event was preventable due to the gear being 4 years old, and he was traveling at 80mph and hit an anchoring platform.
