Parasailing is such a powerful experience that many people understandably want to document it. Luckily, modern phones are equipped with impressive cameras that make it easy for anyone to film the experience. Other parasailers simply want to bring their phones on their trip for fear of them getting stolen. So, can you take your phone parasailing?
You can take your phone parasailing in most cases unless the tour specifically prohibits phones. Some parasailing tours won’t let you bring your phone for insurance and liability purposes. Place your phone in a waterproof pouch with a strap and you should have no issues taking it up with you.
If you plan to take a video, it’s a great idea to strap a GoPro to your clothes in a waterproof case to be extra safe. Ask your parasailing tour guide or operator about their phone policy before you book your appointment if you are curious. Follow along as we explore everything that you need to know before you take your phone parasailing.
Can a Parasailing Tour Company Deny You from Taking Your Phone with You?
In rare cases, some parasailing tour companies won’t let you take your phone with you and have the right to make their own company rules. While it is rare, companies typically explain this ban as a liability issue, while some tours say that phones aren’t allowed because of insurance purposes. That is why it’s important to ask in advance or check their website before you book your tour.
I can understand them denying a phone that is not strapped to you as its likely to fall, but if its secured you should have no problems.
Will Your Phone Get Wet Parasailing?
Your phone shouldn’t get wet when parasailing, but it can happen in some cases. Parasail operators don’t typically dip you in the water unless you request it. You don’t touch the water when you take off or land when parasailing, and water does not splash up on you.
However, it’s important to secure your phone so you don’t drop it into the water while you’re in the air.

How to Safely Take Your Phone Parasailing?
Place your phone in a waterproof baggy and secure it to your body with a strap to protect it when parasailing. Options like the JOTO 1 Universal Waterproof Pouch are easy to attach to your neck or wrist. This is essential when parasailing because the last thing you want is to drop your phone or have to clutch it during your flight.
I like to travel and I always take a similar phone bag. It keeps your phone and cash dry, but most importantly it prevents you from losing your phone. I was on vacation in the Domincan Republic heading to Saona Island, we stopped to snorkel in the ocean and I had my old GoPro. I had no straps and somehow I dropped it and it was gone… Now I am always prepared as I was so upset I lost a full vacation of video on that memory card.
Reasons Why You Should Take Your Phone Parasailing
1. Take Photos
While parasailing is quite memorable, taking pictures can permanently cement the experience in your mind. I recommend taking a picture at each step of the flight, or even just when you’re at your peak. That way, you can enjoy the experience without feeling obligated to take pictures the whole time.
2. Take Videos
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. Taking a video lets you enjoy the experience and forget that there’s a camera even there. Simply attach the phone to your body, press record, and review the footage later. This is a great option, especially if you don’t get the chance to go parasailing too often.

3. Nobody Steals It
You should be able to trust your parasailing tour guides, but you can’t always trust the other passengers. Parasailing tours often hold up to 10 people, so you are typically on the boat with strangers. It’s nice to believe that none of them would steal your phone and belongs, but there is no guarantee.
Bringing your phone on the trip also ensures that you won’t have to leave it behind on the beach which would increase the chance of it getting stolen.
4. Document the Tour
Flying in the air is the highlight of a parasailing tour, but that’s only part of the experience. The experience often lasts an hour, but you are only in the air for 8-15 minutes of that. Film your journey out and away from the shore leading up to the minute you finally take your flight.
Can You Take a Camera with You Parasailing?
You can take a camera with you parasailing in most cases. However, it’s only worthwhile to bring small cameras that are meant for action sports, such as a GoPro. This is a great option because you can strap a GoPro to your body without disrupting your harness.
That way, you don’t have to hold a camera during your flight and you won’t have to worry about it falling. You can also find waterproof cases for action sports cameras just in case you dip in the water during your flight.

Final Thoughts
Most parasailing tour companies let you take your phone with you. However, some companies won’t let you take your phone because of the risk of it getting stolen or dropped during your flight. Conceal your phone in a waterproof pouch if you take it with you. Otherwise, simply bring a GoPro and attach it to your body during your flight to capture the beautiful scenery!
