I have some family in Edmonton, and I really enjoy visiting the city! It has a wide variety of yummy eats to enjoy. Plus, the events held there are an absolute blast; you don’t want to miss out on them. However, I know some people visiting are going to be looking for something more adventurous. What if someone wants to bungee jump; are there any bungee jumping locations in Edmonton?
There are currently no bungee jumps in Edmonton, however, there used to be one at the West Edmonton Mall, but it closed down in 2013. Since then there have not been any new bungee jumps open up in the city.
There are a handful of locations you can drive to and other thrilling activities you can enjoy in the area, that I will discuss below.
Can You Bungee Jump in West Edmonton Mall?
There was a really neat place you could bungee jump inside of the Edmonton Mall; it was called the Center of Gravity. The tower was located inside the Waterpark in the Edmonton Mall. It was so popular because it set a world record as the world’s largest indoor bungee tower.
Not to mention, the tower was used to set other world records. For instance, Peter Charney jumped 106 times in 24 hours. However, there were facility problems that caused him to take a 10-hour break; otherwise, that number would have been much higher.
Unfortunately, the bungee tower closed on April 7, 2013, for unknown reasons. The tower is still there, but all of the equipment is gone.
Bungee Jumping Locations Near Edmonton You Can Visit:
Sadly, the Edmonton bungee closed. Therefore, people who want to experience bungee jumping are forced to travel outside of Edmonton. Below, I’ve shared several locations you can check out, but they are quite a distance away.
1. Whistler Bungee
- Driving Distance from Edmonton: 702 miles
- Location: Whistler Bungee Bridge, Calcheak Forest Service Rd, Whistler, BC V0N 1B1, Canada
- Bungee Height: 160 feet
- Bungee Type: Ankle or Body Harness
Those of you willing to travel to the Whistler Bungee site are lucky because this location is considered to be one of the most impressive bungee jumping locations in Canada.
The best part about it is that the location is reachable by vehicle, so you can either drive up to the bridge or take a shuttle up so you can meet your guide. Not to mention, this location is open year-round, except when there is lightning or high winds.
Take the time when you’re on the bridge to check out the area! It’s absolutely gorgeous up there. The bridge sits 160 feet above the water, and you’re able to see the beautiful peaks that serve as a backdrop to the teal waters of the Cheakamus River.
Something to note is that there are no age restrictions at this bridge. Although, it’s required that anyone under the age of 19 have a parent or guardian with them. Anyone jumping alone should weigh between 45 and 350 lbs. However, if you’re jumping with someone, the limit is still 350 maximum. And, of course, it goes without saying the harness must fit each individual correctly.

2. WildPlay Element Nanaimo Bungee
- Driving Distance from Edmonton: 777 miles
- Location: 35 Nanaimo River Rd, Nanaimo, BC V9X 1S5, Canada
- Bungee Height: 150 feet
- Bungee Type: Head first
WildPlay Element Nanaimo Bungee is another great location for you to visit; that’s also in Canada. This location is best known for its naked bungee jump! Yes, you can bungee jump naked if you wish. However, this special day is only held for one weekend during the year, and it will only cost you $40 to do so. The proceeds go to the Schizophrenia Society.
But they host jumps throughout the rest of the year, too, for those who prefer to stay clothed! Jumpers will stand on the edge of a wooden ledge over the Nanaimo River that’s flowing 150 feet below them. Then, they’ll dive head first toward the earth as you feel the adrenaline pumping through your blood. You get the rush and the view all in one!
Bungee Jumps Near Canada (In USA) You Can Visit:
Since there aren’t many places in Canada to bungee jumping, most often than not, people find themselves traveling to the USA to experience different bungee thrills. Therefore, I’ve included a short list of places that are within driving distance of Edmonton.
High Steel Bridge
- Driving Distance from Edmonton: 891 miles
- Location: NF-2340, Shelton, WA 98584
- Bungee Height: 380 feet
- Bungee Type: Head first
If you’re going to travel to Washington State to go bungee jumping, I highly suggest visiting High Steel Bridge near Seattle. This is a rush within a rush because of the way that the landscape is laid out. Let me explain, as you’re plummeting from the 380-foot bridge; it makes you feel like you’re about to hit the ground. But, of course, you don’t.
However, the thing I dislike about this location is that it’s almost impossible to get booked into a group. They don’t run on a normal schedule, and they don’t have a regular office location. So, you can’t just walk in and book for a same day jump.
What I did, was I got a group of 12 people together the handful of times that I went. I would highly suggest you either check with local groups or bring some of your family and friends with you on the trip. This will ensure you get a spot booked.
This may seem like a lot of extra work, but it’s worth it! Not only do you get to see some of the best views the Pacific Northwest has to offer. However, you also get also to experience a piece of Washington State history. This bridge has been there since 1929!
Pacific Northwest Bridge, Amboy WA
- Driving Distance from Edmonton: 957 miles
- Address: NE Belvins Rd & NE Healy Rd, Amboy, Washington 98601
- Bungee Height: 200 feet
- Type of Jump: Feet first
Chances are you most likely have already ventured over to the high steel bridge for a trip or two. Or, maybe you don’t want to wait forever for the group to fill. Either way, I don’t blame you. However, there is another great place to go bungee jumping in Washington, and that’s the Pacific Northwest Bridge in Amboy.
Bungee Masters is the company that runs this bridge. It stands around 200 feet high but still gives you some amazing views of the area! Not to mention, it’s great for beginners. So, if the High Steel Bridge is intimidating to you, then you should try this one out first. The scenery doesn’t play tricks on you, and it’s significantly lower in height.
Activities Similar to Bungee Jumping in Edmonton
It’s not always possible for people to take a road trip somewhere, especially out of their own country. So, if you’re tired of the nearby bungees, you might be better served trying to find a different activity that will give you the same adrenaline dump that bungee jumping does. Here’s a little list for you!
Snowboarding and Skiing
Canada is known for its skiing. If you haven’t skied in Canada yet, you’re definitely missing out! The scenery is absolutely beautiful.
In Edmonton you can head to the Edmonton Ski Club or the Snow Valley Ski Club, they are little ski hills for beginners, great to get rid of the skiing itch. A nicer spot to ski near Edmonton is the Rabbit Hill Snow Resort, it is the largest in the Edmonton area.
If you are looking for the best skiing around you will want to head to Jasper, the Marmot Basin Ski Resort is known for its unparalleled skiing and snowboarding.
You can also drive a few more hours to Banff to go skiing at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort, and Mount Norquay. Furthermore, you can make your way to Whistler BC to hit the slopes. These locations offer some of the best skiing in North America and even the world.
Ice Climbing
Ice climbing is a sport that is continuing to grow in Canada. There are plenty of places to go throughout the Canadian Rockies, as it boasts some of the world’s best places to ice climb. There is everything from beginner crags to the most challenging, multi-pitch routes.
A great place to do this is Yamnuska Mountain Adventures, which is only a four hour drive south of Edmonton. They have guides who can help walk you through if you need them.
The best time to visit for ice climbing would be between late November and early March. Although, if you’re looking at a route that’s on a higher elevation, you can climb up until the end of May, depending on the avalanche activity.
Mountain Biking
For those of you who love biking, Edmonton has its fair share of paths that you can take your mountain bike on. There are about 20 different parks in this region and over 90 miles of paths to ride around on. However, there are plenty of other places to go outside of Edmonton too.
For those looking to enjoy an easier route, you could check out the North Saskatchewan River Loop Trail, which goes for a little over three miles. Or, there’s the Terwillegar Park Perimeter, which is around 2.5 miles long.
However, if you need more of a challenge, you can opt for the Rundle River Park Trail, which goes for a little under 13 miles. This is the hardest trail in the area.
Kayaking
Kayaking in Canada is a fantastic experience as well! There’s nothing like floating atop the water with nothing separating you from it than a little bit of polyethylene resin. There are several areas near Edmonton!
One place you could go is Islet Lake which is located about 45 minutes east of Edmonton. The waters are calm as there are no motorboats allowed on the water. Plus, there are plenty of islands for you to check out or have a picnic on.
Another popular place to go kayaking in the area is Big Lake, which is best known for its wetland hiking trails. So, you can go hiking before or after your little kayaking adventure.
Ziplining
Now, don’t forget about ziplining! Edmonton is home to the world’s largest indoor zipline, the SkyFlyer. The zipline stretches 470 feet over the wave pool. You’ll be able to see the whole waterpark here. You can also take the ride with up to three other people at the same time, making it an excellent activity for the whole family.
You can also get your adrenaline fix climbing and testing your limits at the Snow Valley Aerial Park. There are 100 obstacles you get to climb, crawl, and swing through. You will reach heights of 50 feet as you cruise through (or struggle) the course.
Are There Any New Bungee Jumps Coming To Edmonton?
There has been no talk about a new bungee jump coming to Edmonton. However, this does not mean that there won’t be. So, it’s best to keep your ear out as the situation can change at any moment.
