Florida is best known for its sunny weather and popular adventure parks. It is full of various adrenaline-inducing activities, from parasailing to skydiving. But what about those who want to try bungee jumping? Are there any bungee jumps in Florida?
There are no bungee jumps in the State of Florida. However, there used to be a bungee jump at the Track Recreation Center in Destin, Florida, but it’s been closed for some time. The closest thing to a bungee jump would be the Slingshot, a reverse bungee in Orlando, Florida.
Let’s take a closer look at what type of bungees Florida offers. I’ll also include other activities in Florida you can enjoy that will produce the same adrenaline rush! That way, you’re covered if you don’t want to travel outside Florida. Let’s get started!
Bungee Jump in Destin, FL (Closed)
- Driving Distance from Tallahassee: 157 Miles
- Location: 1125 US-98, Destin, FL 32541
- Bungee Height: 75 feet
- Type of Bungee: Body Harness Bungee
There was a bungee jump in Destin at one point, located at the Track Recreation Center. This standalone bungee tower rose 75 feet above the ground and had a giant airbag under the platform that the jumpers would be lowered to.
This bungee was super bouncy and was quite the thrill!
When it was open, it allowed anyone over the age of 18 to jump, and those who were under 18 needed parental permission. Sadly, there is nowhere else to bungee jump the classic way in Florida, and you will need to travel elsewhere for such an adventure.
Orlando Slingshot
- Driving Distance from Tallahassee: 260 Miles
- Location: 8433 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819
- Bungee Height: 390 feet
- Type of Bungee: Reverse bungee
Now, if you’re looking for a nice adrenaline rush, you could visit Orlando and take a ride on the reverse slingshot. The one located in Orlando will sling you 390 feet into the air, as you’re reaching up to 100 miles per hour and 6gs of force in less than two seconds. In a way, this is more of a rush than the classic way of bungee jumping!
If you haven’t been on a reverse bungee jump, you’re in for a treat! You’ll feel weightless, spin upside down, right side up—soon, you won’t even know which way you’re facing.
When you reach the top of the ride, you’ll fly back toward the ground until the steel cables catch you and sling you back into the air again. This is not for the faint of heart.
Bungee Jumping Locations Near Florida
Florida has little to choose from regarding different bungee jumping locations. Therefore, you might find that it’s worth it to travel to another area (sort of) nearby in order to go! Below, I’ve listed a few relatively close places.
Vertigo Bungee, Tyrone, Kentucky
- Driving Distance from Tallahassee: 674 miles
- Location: 1539 Tyrone Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342
- Bungee Height: 283 feet
- Type of Bungee: Head first
If there’s one place I could say to go bungee jumping, it would hands down be Vertigo Bungee in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. They’ve had their hand in the sport for over 30 years and are probably one of the most experienced companies in the USA.
Vertigo has logged over 300,000 jumps from all over the world. However, when jumping with them, you’ll be leaping the Youngs Bridge as they own it! This company is even recognized internationally and was even featured on MTV back in the day.
The bridge is 283 feet high and crosses the Kentucky River, giving jumpers a fantastic view of Kentucky and the surrounding flora. The views are great, and the company is excellent; you can’t go wrong when jumping with Vertigo Bungee.
Activities Like Bungee Jumping in Florida
If you don’t want to travel out of state but don’t want to check out the ride in Orlando, that’s okay! You can do plenty of other things in the area without leaving the sunshine state.
Skydiving
You can’t live in Florida and love extreme sports but not go skydiving here! The scenery is beautiful, and since the ocean surrounds half the state, there are plenty of beaches to see from high up, along with the trees and cities scattered about below.
Here are some of the best places you can go skydiving throughout Florida:
- Skydive Key West
- Skydive Spaceland Florida
- Skydive Sebastian
- Skydive Palatka
- World Skydiving Center- Jacksonville
Shark Diving
Another sport that is popular in the South is shark diving. This is where you will get an up close and personal experience with sharks swimming in the open ocean.
The waters near the Florida Keys are home to various shark species, making it a great place to more or less go swimming with them! However, you will want to ensure you only go with a reputable company, as this sport can be hazardous.
One of the best companies in the area is Keys Shark Diving. They have floating cages so you won’t need a scuba certification. Plus, the cage is right next to the boat. You can choose between a half-day or a full-day trip!
Take An Airboat Tour
There’s nothing more exhilarating than traveling on the water at speeds of 40 to 60 miles per hour while checking out the wildlife. Whether it’s in the Florida Everglades or somewhere else, you cannot miss the opportunity to take one of these airboat tours.
There are a few companies in the state that are great to choose from; these include:
- Everglades Swamp ToursSpirit of the Swamp Airboat Rides
- Florida Airboat Rides
- Airboat and Gator Charters
Hang Gliding
If skydiving isn’t your thing, but you still want to participate in it, then Florida is the place to do it! One of the most popular places to do this is in Orlando, as the city provides one of the most beautiful views you’ll get while hang gliding. You’ll also get to see some of the major attractions, such as Universal Studios, Disney World, and SeaWorld.
Another great place to hang glide is the Daytona Area due to the views you’ll get of the Atlantic Ocean. You can also keep an eye out for the Daytona International Speedway. Not to mention, it really needs to see the hustle and bustle of the city.
I could go on about the areas where you can hang glide in Florida, but this section would be never-ending. Here is a list of a few more places you can check out:
- Wallaby Ranch
- The Florida Keys
- The Florida Ridge
- Tampa
- Jacksonville
- Bonita Springs
- St. Augustine
- Destin
Parasailing
One of the most popular sports in Florida is parasailing, and one of the best places to do that in Florida is in Boca Raton. The beaches are quiet and clean, and you get some of the best views that the ocean has to offer. Since there aren’t too many crowds here, you’ll be able to see the scenery and not the mass crowds of people lining the shores.
Another great place to parasail in Florida is Cocoa Beach. The waters are consistently calm in this area. There’s a company called Cocoa Beach Parasail down here that’s had over 20 years of experience with the sport. You can fly up to 800 feet in this location, and you might even spot a few whales, stingrays, or dolphins.
