Once you’ve been parasailing, you will most likely want to go again. However, it’s not like skydiving, where you can repeatedly skydive in the same place and still have a blast. Eventually, the same views from the parasail get old, which leads to searching for new places to enjoy the sport. So, what if you find yourself in Cancun?
Because of Cancun’s safety regulations or lack thereof regarding parasailing, you need to be very careful about who you book your tour with. To help you, I’ve compiled a list of seven of the best parasailing tours in the area.
Is Parasailing Safe in Cancun?
Parasailing in Cancun is safe if you tour with a seasoned guide. Although, there is a chance of harm or worse, just as there is with anything in life.
Regarding parasailing, there are no safety regulations in Mexico, and operator error and poorly managed protective gear are to blame for most injuries or fatalities. So, as long as you research the company you plan to go with, you should be fine!
What to Consider When Booking a Parasailing Tour in Cancun?
When you’re searching for the perfect tour in Cancun, you should consider several factors, which I’ve listed below.
Combine Tours to Save Money
Chances are, you are in Cancun for more than just a parasailing trip, right? So, if you’re also there to go bungee jumping, skydiving, scuba diving, or whatever your cup of adrenaline tea is, you can combine your tours.
There are plenty of “two for one” deals in Cancun where you can pay for parasailing and a jet ski ride for the price of only one activity. Some tours even include access to the showers and round-trip transport from your hotel to the activity.
Choosing a Reputable Tour Company
I cannot express how important it is to book through a reputable tour company for any activity, especially in a different country where sports are not as regulated.
Case in point, I had a friend who visited the Bahamas to parasail. She found a group of people having fun on the water, and they invited her to come with them after a lunch break. They weren’t a tour company. The line snapped on her, and she fell into the water.
They didn’t save her; they took off to avoid getting in trouble. Thankfully, an actual tour company nearby came to her rescue. But that could have ended up much worse. Never go parasailing with anyone on the water if they’re not part of a business.
Always check into the tour company you book with, and ensure they have certain safety and equipment regulations they follow. And keep in mind, if a tour company doesn’t have a lot of clients… there’s a reason why!
Take a Waterproof Camera with You!
Understandably, you want to take your memories when you go home, so getting photos and videos of your experience is essential. However, most tours charge a good amount of money for these.
Before your trip, make sure you purchase a decent-quality action camera . Or, if your phone can take good photos, bring your phone! There are waterproof baggies or cases you can buy to pop your device in to keep it safe in case it gets wet or you drop it.

View this post on Instagram
- Rating:4/5
- Weight limits: 99 lbs to 286 lbs per person
- Height Restrictions: N/A
- Age Restrictions: 6+
Choosing this tour if you are staying in Cancun means you will have to get a bus/van ride out to Playa Del Carmen, which is a 42 mile drive. When I travel in Mexico I actually enjoy a little van ride as I get to see places I would never get to!
This is a great tour to choose if you’re worried about the quality of gear they use, as this team prioritizes their safety standards and keeps track of the wear and tear on their equipment. That way, you can fly above the beautiful waters and enjoy the magnificent views of Playa del Carmen.
In this package, pickup and drop-off are included. As long as your hotel is a pickup location (most major hotel chains are), you’ll get the closest thing to door-to-door service! However, some hotels aren’t pickup points, so they will determine the nearest spot to you for transport pickup and drop-off.
Just ensure you’re prepared to meet with them about an hour before your tour, as this gives time for the safety lectures and transport.

- Not ideal for anyone with heart or back problems.

What is the Weight Limit for Parasailing in Cancun?
Whether alone or with a friend, the gross load for parasailing in Cancun is 397 lbs. As the minimal weight threshold for parasailing in Cancun is 65 lbs, children usually cannot participate; however, several tour companies make exceptions.
Where To Stay In Cancun?
If you still aren’t sure exactly where to book your stay in Cancun, I have a few suggestions. I’m sure that most of your activities will involve the beach; therefore, I chose some of the best locations along the coast, so you’re close to your parasailing tour and other adventures you plan to go on.
Hostel Natura
A hostel is always a great idea if you’re looking for an option that will save you a few bucks! But this isn’t like any other hostel; it’s charming, friendly, and the beds are more comfortable than most.
Moreover, his hostel is located in the middle of the city so you’re close to eateries, shopping centers, and other local attractions. Plus, you can’t beat the free Wi-Fi.
Hotel Flamingo Cancun Resort
The Hotel Flamingo Resort in Cancun is ideal for those who want the resort experience but for a fraction of the price. The best part is it has an all-inclusive option!
When you stay here, you will be about 20 minutes from downtown, and close to local activities and attractions.
Aquamarina Beach Hotel Cancun
You can’t get better than comfortable rooms, free breakfast, an outdoor pool, and free Wi-Fi, right? Wrong! This location is one of the only ones that offers babysitting services!
So, if you have a young one with you that can’t go on your parasailing trip, you can schedule to leave them with the hotels babysitting service. You also can’t beat the 24-hour front desk service, and laundry facilities nearby!
ÓLEO Cancún Playa – All Inclusive Boutique Resort
For a classy, all-inclusive stay on the beachfront, stay here! Everything from their beds to their complimentary bath products will leave you in absolute awe. When you arrive, expect a cocktail in one hand, and a massage for the other! What’s great, is this is a pet-friendly location, so even your fur baby is welcome!
Hotel NYX Cancun
Another great stay on the beach is Hotel NYX Cancun, and it’s great for families, friends, couples, or even those of your traveling alone. The suites are spacious, and detailed, leaving you feel like it’s a home away from home! It’s important to note that this is a not an all-inclusive stay hotel, but there is room service available!
How To Get Around Cancun
You need to know the best ways to get to and from your destinations in Cancun. I highly suggest bus or taxi!
- Bus: The heart of Cancun has excellent bus service. Within the bus, just above the handrails, is the stop-request button. Passengers commonly use Routes R1 and R2
- Taxi: When compared to the cost of using the bus, taxi prices are still reasonable even though they are more in the Hotel Zone than they are in other parts of Cancun. Your hotel should have a list of companies and how much a taxi would cost. There’s also Uber available.
Can You Walk Around Cancun?
Walking around Cancun isn’t a great option as most everything is pretty spaced out. Walking would be fine if you’re just running next door to a restaurant, but as far as getting around to your activities, it’s not recommended.
Should You Rent A Car In Cancun?
I don’t recommend renting a car in Cancun, as driving through it is an absolute nightmare. No one follows the speed restrictions, and the roads are confusing. Leave the driving up to someone else and spend your money on a taxi or bus instead.
Final Thoughts
Cancun is a destination hotspot for parasailing and many other watersports like jet skiing, scuba diving, and more. However, it’s not held to the same safety standards as many other places worldwide, including the USA.
When choosing a tour in Cancun, you must select a reputable company that puts safety first. This will lessen the chance of any accidents or mishaps. It’s also vital that you don’t go parasailing with locals doing it just for fun. Even if it seems okay, be safe rather than sorry and stick with the tour companies with lots of clients, and great reviews, such as the ones listed here.
